This project represents a major digital upgrade, focused on improving performance, accessibility, and operational efficiency for both the public and the fire service team.
Migrating from Drupal 7 to WordPress
A core element of the project was migrating from Drupal 7 to WordPress, including more than 64,000 pieces of content spanning incidents, safety advice, station information, governance documents and more.
This migration ensures long-term sustainability while enabling a significantly more efficient content management experience for staff.
A Fresh, User-Centred Design
We created a new design and information architecture aimed at making the site simpler to navigate and easier to use.
The refreshed layout improves clarity for key journeys such as:
- Finding local station details
- Accessing safety resources
- Viewing incident updates
- Reviewing service governance information
Overall, the user experience is faster, clearer, and more accessible.
Enhanced Functionality & Operational Efficiencies
To support internal processes and public transparency, we delivered a range of new and improved features, including:
- Streamlined tools for publishing meetings, agendas, and documents
- More efficient content workflows
- Better categorisation and search capabilities
- Modernised templates supporting consistent presentation across the site
These improvements reduce administrative time and ensure information can be shared quickly and accurately.
Built for WCAG 2.2 Accessibility
Accessibility was a priority from the outset.
The website has been developed in line with WCAG 2.2, providing inclusive access for all users, regardless of device or assistive technology.
