Shropshire businesses who want to learn more about reducing their impact on the environment now have access to a new-look website.

The Business Environmental Support Scheme for Telford (BESST) set up www.telfordbesst.co.uk to help companies shape their environmental policies.

And now, following requests from local businesses, the site has been redesigned to incorporate an interactive members’ forum which is already proving extremely popular.

Amy Regler, Investor Development Co-ordinator for Transforming Telford, said: “Our members wanted an area on the site where they could share ideas and ask questions, and where they could find out about the latest developments on the local environmental agenda.

“The latest version of the site now includes a ‘members only’ forum where companies can post any environmental queries they may have, offer waste matching solutions, and share best practice ideas.”

The aim now is to develop a legal section on the site, which will include practical examples of how businesses can meet the necessary legal requirements.

“We’re working on a local case study section too, featuring the environmental improvements many of our businesses have made, as one of our key aims is to help members share their experiences,” said Amy.

BESST worked with TheWebOrchard.com, from Shrewsbury, to develop the website, and they are one of the first IT companies in the UK to become carbon neutral and therefore an ideal choice.

TheWebOrchard.com have committed to making an annual payment to offset the firm’s carbon footprint and alongside this are based in the pump house which is a showcase high quality, low energy sustainable building design.

The BESST group is a partnership of local and private sector businesses including Transforming Telford, Ricoh, Maxell, Simmonsigns, DENSO, Telford Extrusions, and Lyreco. It offers free advice to all companies focusing on resource efficiency and minimising waste.
